PS leadership candidate José Luís Carneiro declared on Saturday in Barcelos, Braga district, that his candidacy is “the only one that will prevent the right from winning the parliamentary elections” on March 10.
During a lunch meeting with supporters of his candidacy, Carneiro promised a PS that conducts dialogues with both the left and the democratic centre-right.

Assuring that he is feeling growing support across the country, Carneiro said: “My candidacy is the only one that prevents the right from winning the elections.”
He emphasized the valuing of income, housing and health as “key priorities”.
He also left a pledge that activists will have “a stronger voice” in choosing candidates for deputies.
“Today, together with my comrades, I will adopt a new proposal, the proposal that in the future choice of candidates for deputies, activists will have a stronger voice in choosing their candidates for deputies to the Assembly of the Republic.”he told reporters.
The general secretary can choose 30 percent of the candidates and the district federations 20 percent.
In the remaining 50 percent, José Luís Carneiro wants the activists to have a “say”.
Pedro Nuno Santos and Daniel Adrião are also running in the PS leadership elections, which will take place on the 15th and 16th.
“There are no early winners,” Carneiro said, remembering that each activist represents one vote.
