Moedas questions Pedro Nuno Santos’ ideas in light of the ‘stagnation of the country’

Lisbon City Council President Carlos Moedas questioned the ideas of the new PS Secretary General in light of the stagnation the country is experiencing as a result of eight years of socialist rule.

“Every new leader comes with strength, but what are this leader’s ideas? What will he do in practice? What does the PS have to offer at this moment, after so many years? What will it have to offer the citizens?” Carlos Moedas asked in statements on the sidelines of a visit to the Vida e Paz community’s Christmas party at the University of Lisbon Cantina.

The Social Democratic leader also believed that “people often see this energy from some politicians, but then it is not followed by actions”.

“As chairman of the House, I only wish, in a democratic manner, that everything goes well in the elections ahead of us. The country is going through a difficult moment, when the country is stagnating,” he reflected, adding: “a moment when we have been ruled for so many years by the PS and a government that has many flaws.”

Carlos Moedas’ statements come after Pedro Nuno Santos was elected general secretary of the PS on Saturday evening, after winning direct elections on Friday and Saturday with 62% of the votes.

Still, the Social Democrat wished “all parties in Portugal all the best” for the March 10 legislative campaign.

“Yesterday [sábado] there was the election of the new leader, the new Secretary General of the PS. I wish the best for a party that is very important in our democracy,” he said.

Moedas defends the coalition between PSD and CDS before the elections

However, Carlos Moedas defended a coalition between the PSD and the CDS before the elections and believed that many voters are voting for Chega out of fatigue with the current state of the country.

“From the beginning I have defended a coalition between the PSD and the CDS. Firstly, because of the history we have together as a party, because of what we have done in the country, what we have built up. This alliance is very important. I defend and I have always defended an alliance between the PSD and the CDS before the elections. That’s what I did in Lisbon,” he said.

When asked whether the PSD should not seek Chega’s support depending on the election results of the March 10 parliamentary elections, Carlos Moedas emphasized that he has never formed a coalition in Lisbon with the party led by André Ventura and assured that he won’t do that. .

“I do not identify with it and I think that the ideology of Chega does not identify with the administration of Carlos Moedas. We must respect the fatigue of people who vote for a party like Chega. These people are tired of the current situation,” said he. said.

For Carlos Moedas, “this fatigue shows the failure of governance.”

“Chega voters, many of these voters, do not vote for Chega’s ideas out of conviction. They vote for the situation the country has been in for years and for this stagnation of the PS,” he reflected.

On the other hand, the Social Democrat argued that the leader of the PSD, Luís Montenegro “shows his capabilities and his qualities”.
