The PSD councilor of the Porto City Council, Vladimiro Feliz, suspended his mandate for a period of one year, due to the impossibility of reconciling his position in the council with his professional activities, after being replaced by Mariana Macedo.
In the letter suspending the mandate, which Lusa had access to on Monday, the Social Democratic councilor makes it clear that his professional life has changed substantially and that “makes it completely impossible to continue to perform the position at this time”.
The former vice-president of the Chamber of Porto, then led by Rui Rio, headed the PSD list for the Porto City Council in the 2021 local elections, after receiving 17.25% of the votes and two deadlines had been met.
“During the election campaign, I said that I would take on the role of councilor as long as it did not harm my professional life, because I knew in advance that it would be extremely difficult to reconcile the full exercise of municipal functions, as a councilor without a portfolio, with a professional life, not only because of the dedication required by the municipal mandate that the Portuguese entrusted to me, but also because of the frequency and timing of the municipal meetings”he states.
The Social Democrat emphasizes that, despite the mayor’s availability to change meeting times, he has always stated that the role he took on “it would be difficult to address the problem of lack of time for the commitment that would be necessary in the relationship with citizens, institutional representation, study of files and other decisions inherent to the position in question”.
“Being at the service of Porto is one of the most challenging and noble tasks I can perform, but after completing these two years as President, this is the right time to take stock”he adds, saying that it is with a “deep civic consciousness” that he is requesting the suspension of the mandate for 365 days.
Vladimiro Feliz, born in 1973 in Porto, will be replaced on the council by Mariana Macedo, third on the list of candidates for the city council in the 2021 elections.
