The president of the PSD defended this Friday in his Christmas message that the current political crisis can be seen as “an opportunity” for the Portuguese to change their government and their lives and promise “a new ambition”.
In a message that will be broadcast at 7:30 PM on the PSD airtime on RTP1 and distributed on the party’s social networks, Luís Montenegro emphasizes that Christmas is a time when families come together to “share their lives, their projects, the challenges and also its challenges’. the life, projects and challenges of the country”.
“This Christmas in Portugal we are facing a situation of uncertainty and lack of definition. The Prime Minister resigned and the government was dismissed. We are therefore facing a political crisis on top of the major economic and social problems and restrictions we already face. have experienced.” , he says .
However, the chairman of the PSD believes that “this political crisis is also an opportunity”.
“An opportunity to change governments, an opportunity to change our lives, an opportunity to solve the problems that we actually experience every day,” he declared.
Montenegro stated that the PSD and himself are not satisfied with a country “where younger people emigrate in search of an opportunity”, where “the middle class lives under pressure, suffocated by a very high tax burden” or where “pensioners are losing purchasing power every year and increasingly become more isolated.”
“This Christmas is also an opportunity for us to look at Portugal and imagine a future, a hope and a new ambition,” he argued.
The social democratic leader believes that it is possible to make a country grow more from an economic point of view, “better manage the main systems in health, education and housing”, without leaving aside ethical concerns.
“It is possible to have a fairer, more transparent society, in which ethical issues are paramount in the behavior of political agents and public agents,” he stated.
Montenegro also recalls that in 2024 the 50th anniversary of April 25 will be celebrated, as this will also be an opportunity to evoke “the freedom and principles” of Portuguese democracy.
“It is within this framework of hope, ambition and sense of responsibility that today I wish you happy holidays, a Christmas that is also an opportunity for you, as a family, to draw your conclusions about our journey so far and the journey we have taken. to start next year,” he appealed, hoping that “a more prosperous and fairer country can be built.”
