The PCP Secretary General found the Prime Minister’s Christmas message this Tuesday insufficient and regretted that António Costa did not recognize that he “wasted two years” on political and financial conditions to improve the lives of Portuguese.
On the sidelines of a visit to the Portuguese Council for Refugees (CPR)Paulo Raimundo was asked about António Costa’s Christmas message, released on Sunday, in which he expressed “redoubled confidence” in the Portuguese, He defended that he had left a better country after eight years of Socialist government leadership, although he acknowledged that there were still problems to be solved.
“It was not enough, what the Prime Minister recognized is evidence: it is necessary to increase salaries and pensions, strengthen the professionals in the National Health Service or respond to problems of access to housing,” opined the general secretary of the PCP.
The communist leader regretted that the prime minister “failed to recognize an important element: he had two years in charge, during which he could have done much more and responded to the problems he identified.”
“The central issue is that the PS, the absolute majority of the government, with economic and financial conditions, has wasted two years of our lives, has not opened new roads and only deteriorated old ones,” he criticized, as “it word trust, when used many times, it means the opposite.”
