PCP wants to know what justifies “brutal increase” in tolls on 25 de Abril and Vasco da Gama

The PCP today questioned the government about the assumptions on which the “brutal rise” in tolls on the 25 de Abril and Vasco da Gama bridges from January 1 of the following year is based.

According to a question to the Minister of Infrastructure, to which Lusa had access, the PCP parliamentary group questioned Pedro Nuno Santos about the “concrete assumptions” on which “the revision of the toll prices” of the two bridges connecting the different municipalities in the Metropolitan area from Lisbon.

From January 1, 2023, prices will fluctuate between 15 and 25 cents for category 01 and between 50 cents and two euros for trucks, a decision by Lusoponte that marked a “cruel increase” for communists.

“These are unacceptable values that would greatly disadvantage anyone who uses this strategic infrastructure frequently on a daily basis,” said the bank led by Paula Santos, adding that costs for Lusoponte “have not increased at the rate of inflation”.

Nor is the “exit that the government admits to accept in already public statements” from the PCP’s point of view a “real alternative”, as “this year’s increase is exchanged for another extension of the concession period to allow Lusoponte and to reimburse its shareholders, has nothing in return and gives in to their blackmail”.

For this reason, the communists demand the “save of the concession” of the two bridges and ask the minister whether this possibility is being investigated.
