“We have holidays, especially in the summer, which are longer than in other places,” said the Prime Minister on BFMTV this Thursday, April 18. Gabriel Attal thus confirmed the wish, expressed last year by Emmanuel Macron, to bring forward the start of the school year in September for students in difficulty.
“We know that the length of the vacation has an impact on the academic success of many students” who do not have help at home, he explained.
First the students in difficulty.
Gabriel Attal believes, in fact, that “we should start with the struggling students and bring them in before the others” this summer. Regarding the reduction of summer holidays for all students, the head of Government intervenes: “Then we will see if there are other developments,” he says.
A system will be put in place “to inform the family (of a child in difficulty, ed.) if he repeats a grade or if he returns to school before the others to prepare him,” explains Gabriel Attal.
Emmanuel Macron announced his desire to “reopen the debate” during school hours last June during a trip to Marseille, pointing to summer holidays considered too long. The issue divides specialists and teaching unions.
