Maintaining the ceasefire is “vital” to provide aid “and save lives” in Gaza, the UN World Food Program (WFP) urged this Tuesday, October 21, calling again for the opening of all border crossings into the Palestinian territory.
“Maintaining the ceasefire is vital. It is really the only way to save lives and fight hunger in northern Gaza,” Abeer Etefa, spokesperson for the WAP, announced to the press in Geneva following Sunday’s acts of violence in the Palestinian territory, the most important since the entry into force of a ceasefire agreement on October 10.
The Emir of Qatar condemns the “violations”
The emir of Qatar, whose country is a key mediator in the ongoing truce in Gaza, accused Israel on Tuesday of continuing to violate the ceasefire after a series of deadly Israeli attacks against Hamas in the Palestinian territory.
“We reaffirm our condemnation of all Israeli violations and practices in Palestine, in particular the transformation of the Gaza Strip into an area unfit for human life, (and) the continued violations of the ceasefire,” Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani said in his annual address to the Legislative Council in Doha.
At least 45 Palestinians murdered according to Civil Defense
Israel carried out strikes on Sunday in Gaza in response, it said, to attacks by Hamas, which denied these accusations. For his part, Donald Trump assured on Monday that Hamas would be “eradicated” if it did not respect the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, after Israel on Sunday denounced violations of the truce by the Palestinian Islamist movement, which denied them.
The Gaza Civil Defense, a rescue service operating under the authority of Hamas, reported that at least 45 Palestinians were killed in the bombings and four others were killed by Israeli fire east of Gaza City on Monday. The Israeli army says it has attacked “terrorists” who approach the “yellow line” that delimits the area under Israeli control.
