“We should not generalize.” During his lengthy interview Wednesday night on France 2, Emmanuel Macron assured him: “I will never establish an existential link between immigration and insecurity.” He thus reacted to the comments of the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, assuring that he had “described statistics and facts”.
“We are a country that has always had emigrants, that has welcomed and integrated. What I want us to be able to do is welcome those we want to protect, who are fleeing the fighting, who are fighters. Integrate those who want to study or help us build the country,” he said.
“We must integrate much faster”
A few seconds later, however, the President of the Republic wanted to explain Gérald Darmanin’s words in greater depth. “Today when we look, and this was commented on by the Minister of the Interior, crime in Paris, where we have a high concentration of this illegal immigration, is very present in crime events.”
“When we look at crime events in Paris, we cannot fail to see that at least half of the crime acts come from people in an irregular situation or waiting for a title”, adds the Head of State.
Regarding these two categories, “we must integrate much faster” those who are destined to stay and “tighten our rules” for the others.
