OE2023: Montenegro accuses government of ignoring aid that will be needed

The PSD chairman on Friday believed that the government acted “late and in bad times” this year and for 2023 the state budget is ignoring the aid that will be needed.

“Not only has the government acted late and in bad times this year 2022, but it is still not projecting for 2023 all the help that families, businesses and especially people need to cope with a price hike that has a real impact. . in what are the most basic needs”appointed Luís Montenegro in Sernancelhe, in Viseu.

The PSD chairman recalled that his party… “to draw attention to the fact that these seven years of PS have brought in Portugal a reality of impoverishment visible in several domains” of society.

For the PSD leader, the situation is: “it is visible in the difficulties people face every day to cover the most basic expenses, but also to access essential services in health, education, in everything that is the main engine of a normal life”.

“We want to have a life where we have work, where we have the reward for our work according to what our effort is, unfortunately in Portugal you earn little, you earn badly and unfortunately in Portugal you pay a lot of tax and All this will not change with this state budget, on the contrary, it will get worse”defended.

At the entrance of the opening of the 30th Chestnut Festival in Sernancelhe, Luís Montenegro reminded journalists that “since April” he “has drawn the attention of the country, and of the members of the government in particular, to the circumstance of an inflation spiral” which took place throughout the year.

“And that has brought the daily lives of people, families and businesses a very unfavorable reality with the rise in the price of essential goods, which is well above what was expected by the government for this year’s state budget.”said.

Therefore, he justified, the PSD “the government claimed the need for a social support program and a support program for businesses and social institutions so that they could cope with the price increase”.

Montenegro pointed to the rises in food, fuel, electricity and gas prices, stressing that: “this rise in inflation has an average, but there are many products that are above this average”namely the mentioned.

In this sense, he predicted that Portuguese with “lower” incomes and retirees “will lose purchasing power in the coming years and especially next year”as well as officials.

Luís Montenegro admitted the PSD will now focus “to propose some measures to amend the budget, measures that are only intended to mitigate some of the negative effects, because this budget has not been amended”.

“This budget follows the path of an economic policy that has been wrong for years and that does not focus on economic growth, value creation, growth, wealth creation so that we can have more opportunities, better wages and also better public services.”, said.

In your opinion, today, “by the passivity or negligence of a government that has been in office for seven years” the Portuguese “they are worse, the country is worse, people’s lives are much worse and this is due to the wrong policies they have followed”.
