Bruno Retailleau was appointed Minister of the Interior in the government of Michel Barnier on September 22, 2024. The Vendéen is originally from Saint-Malô-du-Bois, a village located a few kilometers from Puy du Fou. Until then, he was head of the Les Républicains (LR) group in the Senate since 2014, a position he left after his appointment to Place Beauvau. Before entering the government, Bruno Retailleau began his political career alongside the sovereigntist Philippe de Villiers, for whom he was deputy when he was a deputy. He then held numerous elected positions: general councilor of Vendée (1988-2015), deputy (1994-1997), president of the general council of Vendée (2010-2015), president of the regional council of Pays de Loire (2016). -2017). Although he has distanced himself from the founder of Puy du Fou, their positions are close on certain issues. In 2013, Bruno Retailleau was one of the leaders of the Manif pour tous movement, which opposed marriage for same-sex couples. He then raised “the precautionary principle” on the right of single-parent families to adopt and also voted against the inclusion of abortion in the Constitution.
