“Starting this afternoon we will deliver a first tranche of humanitarian aid of 30 tons to help the displaced, with carpets, hygiene kits, lamps and jerrycans,” Jean-Noël Barrot told BFMTV.
An international conference on Lebanon held last Thursday in Paris raised more than 800 million in humanitarian aid and 200 million in aid for the Lebanese army.
France and the United States “actively working” on a ceasefire
More than a million people have been displaced in the country since massive Israeli bombing began on September 23 and more than 1,780 people have been killed, according to an AFP tally based on official data.
Israel, at war against pro-Iran Hezbollah, is increasing deadly bombings against strongholds of the Shiite movement in Lebanon and has killed many of its leaders, including all-powerful leader Hassan Nasrallah, on September 27.
Jean-Noël Barrot also assured that Washington and Paris were still “actively working” to achieve a ceasefire between the two belligerents.
