The Socialist Party will vote on a motion of censure in the event of “approval of the budget through article 49.3”, announced Olivier Faure, this Wednesday, November 27.
The first secretary of the PS met this Wednesday with Boris Vallaud and Patrick Kanner, leader of the PS deputies and president of the socialist group in the Senate, respectively.
The 49.3 “probably” used by Michel Barnier
“The Prime Minister confirmed the absence of compromise, the intransigence of the Macronist-LR bloc and the approval of the budget through article 49-3,” wrote Olivier Faure in his X account.
“The national office of the PS unanimously confirmed this afternoon the vote on a motion of censure,” concluded Olivier Faure.
This announcement confirms the intentions of the Socialist Party. Already in a column published in Le Monde on November 21, representatives of the New Popular Front, including Olivier Faure, stated that “if Michel Barnier imposes his budget by 49.3, our parliamentary groups will present a motion of censure.”
Since mid-November, Prime Minister Michel Barnier has assured that he will “probably” use 49.3 to approve the 2025 finance bill.
Hours earlier, Emmanuel Macron ruled that a motion of censure “can only be approved with the support of the RN and PS.” The government spokesperson Maud Bregeon highlighted a few hours earlier the “incredible responsibility” of the socialist deputies, calling on them to “get rid of their link with rebellious France.”
