Risk of censorship: the Minister of Economy “willing to make concessions” in the budget

Antoine Armand, Minister of Economy, Finance and Industry, spoke on BFMTV-RMC about the possibility of reaching a compromise with the RN, in particular on the issue of the price of electricity, to avoid the risk of government censorship in the coming years. weeks as part of budget discussions in the National Assembly.

A minister who warns against “the budgetary and financial unknown.” “Michel Barnier’s door has always been open” to discuss the opposition’s proposals on the budget and thus avoid the risk of a motion of censure, said this Thursday, November 28, Antoine Armand, Minister of Economy, Finance and Industry, on BFMTV-RMC. .

In fact, Michel Barnier’s government could be censured during the budget vote in the National Assembly, starting in early December. The National Group considers that its demands have not been heard and threatens to vote in favor of censure of the government, already promised by the left.

“Obviously we are willing to make concessions,” he said, explaining that he wanted to avoid a “storm” for France.

“Discussion” on the electricity tax

“There have been great developments regarding small pensions and reductions in contributions,” underlines the Minister of Economy, who also mentions a “discussion” on the increase in the electricity tax, a “red line” of the RN.

“Is it better to have a government that is not exactly the one we want or not to have a budget?” he said, estimating that the government and the members of the common base must still change their line, particularly on the delicate issue of electricity.

Antoine Armand, however, warns against abandoning spending cuts: “If we exceed all budget targets, it makes no sense to say that we are increasing the bills.”

The PS accused of “threatening” instead of “proposing”

According to him, in this sense the RN is more willing to negotiate than the left and, in particular, the Socialist Party, which today refuses to open the way to real negotiations with the Government with a view to a possible abandonment of the vote for a motion. of censorship: “What I see today is that it is easier for them not to discuss, threaten, not propose anything,” the minister accused.

The first part of the budget, which refers to Social Security, could lead to the examination of a first motion of censure next Tuesday. This should then be the beginning of a series of several tense moments in the National Assembly, during which the government risks being censured.
