Is a new electricity tax eliminated? Rebellious France claims “part of this victory”, but also sees it as a gift to the extreme right. Guest on RMC-BFMTV this Friday, November 29, the coordinator of the LFI, Manuel Bompard, commented on Michel Barnier’s concession to avoid censure by the deputies of the National Rally.
Although the left-wing elected “prefers” that electricity prices “increase less”, he regrets that the withdrawal of the tax has been used as a reduction in a first communication from the Prime Minister, comparing it to “Jo Confusion”.
“He’s done this to us twice. It’s a bit like ‘Jo is confusing you’, he makes us believe that electricity is not going to increase, but in the end it is going to increase a little. It makes you believe that the retirement pensions are going to revalue and in the end you look at the details, it is not so clear,” commented the rebel.
“It makes you believe in a great victory, when in reality it will undermine the purchasing power of the French,” he added.
“Michel Barnier will fall, that’s for sure”
The withdrawal of this new tax, the TICFE, but also a reduction of the State Medical Aid (AME) were among the “red lines” of the National Group to give the Barnier government a break.
But the far-right party is still not satisfied, since it has presented, in the voice of Marine Le Pen, its other two demands: the revaluation of all pensions on January 1 and the cancellation of reimbursement for certain medications. The head of RN deputies leaves the government “until Monday” to respond to their demands.
For the rebel Manuel Bompard, Michel Barnier would have made concessions to satisfy his adversaries, in vain? “Mr. Barnier chose dishonor to avoid censorship (…) It is a shame to attack state medical aid (…) He has dishonor and will be censured.”
The coordinator also addressed the far right, which disagrees and may not ultimately try to overthrow the executive. “Mr. Barnier will fall, that is certain. If the National Rally does not censure him, they will betray the French once again.”
