François Bayrou wishes a referendum about budget 2026, he said in an interview at the JDD on Saturday, May 3. Therefore, he wants to attract “the membership of the French”, in a “quite serious question” and, therefore, “ask for everyone’s efforts.” The Government wants to do dozens of billions of euros in savings thanks to this budget. But for Sophie Binet, organizing a referendum on this topic is a mistake.
“If there is a question about which to make a referendum, this is the question of pensions, it would allow you to get out of the top of this conflict that love the country,” he advocates by the general secretary of the CGT in BFMTV.
E to insist: “We said it two years ago, we have been Marty for two years, the government of the time has chosen to enter into force, not that the deputies vote and sit on the mobilization of the French and the French. Emmanuel Macron paid it, at the cost of not having a majority today. That is what he is blocking and that is to make a referendum.”
“Good courage”
Sophie Binet judges “amazing” the idea of the prime minister to organize a referendum about budget 2026. According to her, François Bayrou “no longer has a majority in the National Assembly, it has never been so unpopular in surveys.” And to conclude: “If you think about referendum to approve austerity measures, I wish you courage.”
The organization of a referendum that is not the prerogative of a prime minister must be decided by the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron. Such a method would be unprecedented in the history of the fifth Republic.
