End of life: unlike Le Pen, Tanguy ready to vote for help to die if some “safeguards” are maintained

Unlike Marine Le Pen, the deputy of RN is favorable to the creation of help to die, provided that certain “safeguards” are maintained.

Near Marine Le Pen, Jean-Philippe Tanguy is preparing to distinguish himself from the national rally leader (RN). Unlike the latter, the deputy of the distant party is ready to decide to create an aid to die, while the question of the end of life returned to the Hemicycle of the National Assembly on Monday, May 12.

“If the safeguards are maintained on the discernment and freedom of the caregivers, I will vote for this text,” said the elected official of the extreme right this Wednesday, May 14 in BFMTV-RMC, before justifying themselves: “I think the French need this new right and this possibility of entering dignity.”

Marine Le Pen opposed to die

Accustomed to vote in a tight range, the deputies of the national demonstration can make an exception at the end of life, Marine Le Pen decided to leave a “total freedom” to vote for their troops on this issue that transcends the splits.

However, the RN Group head expressed its opposition to such provision, judging that the text does not include enough “safeguards.”

At the moment, helping to die is planned for the main patients, “Fit (s) to express (its) will in a free and enlightened way”, which suffers a “serious and incurable affection” that “commits the vital prognosis in the advanced or terminal phase” and that no longer supports its suffering. The Minister of Health, Catherine Vautrin, wants to supervise her more and the Government will defend several amendments in this direction.

In addition, the latter specified in BFMTV-RMC this Monday that no doctor will be forced “to practice euthanasia.

Two different texts

After committing in 2022 to trust a reflection on the end of life to a citizen convention, Emmanuel Macron had presented in March 2024 the main lines of a bill at the end of life. But the dissolution of the National Assembly stopped its exam.

Subject to a strong pressure from the deputies, François Bayrou once again put the job in the profession, but when the bill was sawing in two, to leave the deputies to vote for one text but not for the other. Result: the end of life has returned to the National Assembly through two different laws, one over palliative care and the other in the creation of help to die.

The first is currently debated by the deputies. The latter will have two weeks to discuss these texts, including on weekends if necessary, before a solemn vote scheduled for May 27.
