“If the government persists in wanting to impose a path of independence in Nueva Caledonia, we will oppose it (…) Do not support a government that will go against the will of the caleedonia to impose independence despite themselves,” said Laurent Wauquiez in Europe1/CNews.
“What Manuel Valls does is unworthy because he tried to impose a project that was destined for the path of independence on their will,” he said that “New Caledonia is French, it will continue to be French.”
Last week, the discussions about the institutional future of Nueva Caledonia under the auspices of Manuel Valls failed, leaving the archipelago without a clear political limit.

The project presented by the Government, which provided for a “dual nationality, French law and Caledonia”, as well as “transfer and an immediate delegation of sovereign skills”, had aroused the outrage of non -independence, which considered that it was in fact acting to act the independence of the territory.
The negotiations on the future state of Nueva Caledonia had been relaunched in early 2025. There were several discussion cycles, and the former prime minister made three trips on the site, managing to deliver the table two camps with hardly reconcilable positions and that they no longer spoke.
