Former President Nicolas Sarkozy was excluded from the Legion of Honor after his conviction, which became the final, a year in prison for corruption in the case of listening, according to a decree published on Sunday, June 15 in the official magazine.
The former president (2007-2012), also excluded from the National Order of Merit, becomes the second Chief of the Private French State of this distinction after Marshal Pétain, whom the Legion of Honor had been withdrawn after his conviction in August 1945 for high treason and intelligence with the enemy.
This decision was expected since the conviction of Nicolas Sarkozy became final for the rejection of an appeal of the Cassation Court in December.
In the case of listening, the former head of state was declared guilty of having, in 2014, having tried to corrupt a magistrate of the Cassation Court, Gilbert Azibert, hoping to obtain confidential information and with the help of his lawyer I Thierry Herzog.
The three were sentenced, in the first instance and in appeal, to the same three -year prison sentence, including a farm.
Automatic exclusion
With the rejection of his final appeal in France, Nicolas Sarkozy was under an exclusion of the Legion of Honor, which is automatic when a recipient is definitely convicted of a crime or received a prison sentence equal to or greater than a firm year.
