A failed opportunity for the union of Eric Ciotti’s rights during his parliamentary niche: no text was taken by the party combined with the national demonstration this Thursday, June 26 in the National Assembly.
They were a little more than 11 pm when the deputies of the Union of Rights and the National Rally left the hemicycle. The elected officials were discussing the text about the fight against simulated or fixed weddings, carried by the UDR this Thursday, June 26 as part of the parliamentary niche of the party.
This item continues to the announcement of the Minister of Justice Gérald Darmanin that he would not call article 44.2 of the Constitution. This makes it possible to eliminate submendations and could have accelerated the examination of the text while there were 18 amendments at 11 pm examine before midnight, which marks the end of the niche exam. The Minister of Justice defended himself by explaining that, even in case of appeal to article 44.2, the text could not be voted on time. Consequently, the UDR could not have adopted a text during your niche.
A text about the Franco-Algerio Retired Agreement
The debates about this text were particularly stormy. Among the appointments of the Declaration of Human Rights, Testimonies, Songs or Cinema, the deputies of the left groups slowed down the debates.
The RN leader, Marine Le Pen, whose group was able to face a similar obstruction during his own “niches”, punished an “unbearable logorrhea” and promised to do the same during future niches to the left. In a press release, the UDR punished a “parliamentary sabotage” by the left, with the complicity of the government and the LR, almost absent from the hemicycle.
Since the beginning of the day, the UDR group had decided to withdraw another text at risk for the government’s coalition, asking in particular to denounce the Franco-Algerian agreement of 1968, which confers a special status to the Algerians in terms of traffic, stay and employment.
“This parliamentary debate arrives a few days, on July 1, of the verdict that refers to our compatriot Boalem Sansal,” Eric Ciotti argued.
The latter did not want to run the risk of further inveimizing relations between Paris and Algiers, while Algerian prosecution requested 10 years in prison against the Franco-Algerio writer.
The group has also decided to withdraw its bill that prohibits the immediate execution of inelegability sentences, against the opposition of the majority of the hemicycle. The left and the central block denounced a reduction of the law for Marine Le Pen, who appealed his sentence in the case of FN MEP attendees, who deprives it at this stage of the presidential elections (the appeal decision is expected in the summer of 2026).
