The Socialists want to remind the French and their former allies, who, ultimately, are always on the left. It is the only reason for the motion of censure published this week against the government of François Bayrou and whose rejection, on Tuesday night at the National Assembly, was executed in advance.
A political message to affirm that they return to the pure and hard opposition. No more benevolent neutrality with respect to the centrist Béarnais. The recruitory conclave failed and judge that the Tenant of Matignon has betrayed its commitment that the National Assembly was seized on the subject, regardless of the results of the discussions between social couples.
Show the muscles, therefore … but not too much, or at least without taking many risks, it immediately makes it more brave. This is evidenced by the attitude of former President François Hollande explaining that he had chosen censorship “as soon as the national demonstration will not be associated there.”
“They return to the niche”
Officially, this strategic turn is quite well received by its leftist partners. “The PS returns to La Razón, that is, to the frontal opposition with Bayrou after the failure of the conclave,” he praised Jean-Luc Mélenchon in X.
Behind the scene, the words are more scathing: “It is good to return home, but due to its lack of presentation, the government could unwind its policy for six months”, Tackle Manuel Bompard, the coordinator of France Rebelde. “It is they who ridicule, they return to the niche, the tail between their legs,” adds another leader of the movement.
The moment when the first secretary of the PS acted with LFI seems very far. In recent days, Olivier Faure has not excluded that in the case of early elections, the PS has again alliance with the Jean-Luc Mélenchon party. Of course, this would ensure seats of deputies, but it would be politically illegible after the clashes of recent months.
Another trap: when replacing in the wake of LFI, it is difficult to justify an autonomous socialist candidacy during the next presidential elections without passing the divisors on the left. Now Olivier Faure is charged to ensure that in the eyes of the French and the voters of the left, this strategic turn does not end in a political tail.
