Emmanuel Macron begged Thursday, July 3 to avoid the establishment of the wolf there “where there is pastoralism”, even if that means “take more”, that is, authorized that more canids are sacrificed.
“We are not going to let the wolf develop and go to the massifs where it is in competition with the activities that are ours,” added the head of state outside a trip to Aveyron.
“And that means that it is necessary, as we say modestly, take it more,” he insisted.
A “protected” species and not “strictly protected”
The head of state argued significantly that the presence of the bear, the wolf “and even the vulture” led the breeders to leave their animals “underneath.” “And then we have lands that return to the pepeta, the brush and suddenly what is happening: I bet you, in four years we will have fires,” he said.
“All the people who invent the rules and do not live with animals in places where there is the bear that is developed again or the wolf, whether they spend two nights there,” he said, ensuring knowing “the anxiety it represents” and punishing the accumulation of rules imposed on the breeders.
The president is based in particular on the recent decision at European level to degrade the state of the wolf, which has become a “protected” species and no longer “strictly protected.” This development had also been denounced by defenders of biodiversity.
“And so, since it is no longer a very protected species, it should not be expected to be established, that you have made all investments, to be able to take,” that is, animals.
It is “probable that a law is necessary”
At the end of June, the government had already made a decree that allowed cattle and horses to operate defense shots against the wolves to protect their flock even when it was no longer attacked.
The Minister of Agriculture, Annie Ginevard, had significantly indicated on May 28 before the Senate that on May 12, “there are already 759 attacks and 2,617 predeste animals”, causing “considerable damage.”

“Excluding the wolves from the reproduction areas is not realistic and does not fall under any scientific basis.
