The National Rally does not hide its circumspection after the signing of the draft agreement in Nueva Caledonia. This Sunday, July 13, Deputy RN Jean-Philippe Tanguy even said that his party cannot vote for the modification of the Constitution that plans to register a future “state of New Caledonia.”
“We may vote for it, but we may not vote,” said Marine Le Pen’s relative in LCI. “In the general public announcements that have been made around this agreement, we have strong concerns about the words that are used. Obviously, creating a State within the French State, it raises an important question. Create a nationality together with the French nationality, which asks a fundamental question.”
This agreement, announced on Saturday, acts for the creation of a Caledonian nationality, the inhabitants who comply with the citizenship criteria of the pebbles that benefit from the dual French nationality and Caledonia.
A “State of New Caledonia” will be created registered in the Constitution of the French Republic and can be recognized by the international community. For this, a constitutional bill will have to be voted, which will have to be adopted by the Parliament gathered in Congress.
“Already, beyond the political details and the sovereignty of the agreement, the economic aspect seems extremely fragile,” he also warned Jean-Philippe Tanguy.
“The devil is hidden in the details”
The agreement, which must first be ratified in Nueva Caledonia by the parties and movements that have signed it and that must consult its base, addresses the economy with a future “Pact of economic and financial recast” that provides in particular a “strategic plan” for nickel, the key resource of the territory, but remains vague in ambitions and terms.
“The devil hides in detail,” said Jean-Philippe Tanguy on Sunday, which justifies the prudence of the extreme right on this issue, while the majority of the political class, from the PS to LR, greeted this agreement.
“We seriously take this agreement, we do not take a political position immediately, without having to know the details,” he added, joining the reaction before Jean-Luc Mélenchon for France Rebel.
Marine Le Pen, who wants to be very invested in the issue of abroad, has not yet reacted to this agreement, described as “historical” by President Emmanuel Macron. “It is the silence of reflection, work, retrospective,” Jean-Philippe Tanguy justified in LCI.
