Emmanuel Macron promised it in June: he wants to change “his method of government.” By way of goodwill, he announced on Thursday that he was considering the use of referendums for the National Refoundation Council proposals that he had just launched in Marcoussis, in Essonne.
“There are things that we are going to change in the coming weeks: school, health (…). It can also lead to referendums, ”the president announced in the words of his introduction.
“A part of the collective birth”
The President of the Republic sees in this new think tank an opportunity for “unfiltered dialogue” “at the service of the countryside.” It aims to be a tool to bring government decisions closer to the French.
But faced with the unanimous boycott of the opposition and the skepticism of his own camp, the Head of State must give guarantees that the approach initiated by the CNR can really change the daily life of the French.
“This refoundation council (…) is going to have local variants, with a part of collective delivery. Consensus must be created. We must try to bring positions closer together and say what we agree on and what we do not agree on, to say what we need”, Emmanuel Macron advanced.
The question of the end of life could be one of the topics on which the French could be questioned, at the end of a probable Citizen Convention on the subject.
