It is a proposal that makes Pschitt in public opinion. The first secretary of the Socialist Party Olivier Faure called this Sunday to exhibit the Palestinian flag in the municipalities on September 22, a day scheduled for the recognition of France of the Palestinian State.
But according to a “live opinion” survey, the Elabe Institute for BFMTV and published this Saturday, September 20, 71% of the French oppose this proposal, “of which 40% very opposite and 31% rather opposite.” On the contrary, “28% are favorable, including 18% quite favorable and 10% very favorable.”
Strong opposition to the extreme right
Olivier Faure’s proposal is obviously more sustained to the left than to the right. 73% of supporters in France Rebelde and 64% among environmentalists want to see the Palestinian flags float in the municipalities on Monday.
In Olivier Faure’s own camp, the idea is divided. 56% of socialist supporters oppose the suggestion of their first secretary. On the right, the opposition is more marked. 94% of the voters of the national demonstration do not want the Palestinian flags to decorate the municipalities in France on Monday. They are 89% in general voters.
The division in the proposal is strong depending on the age of the questioned: in summary, the older the French are, the more they oppose the idea of Olivier Faure. “The youngest mainly approves this initiative (58% of favorable young people from 18 to 24 years old), but the opposition becomes the majority into higher sections and believes with age” with 87% of the French over 65 who are against the socialist’s proposal.
For his part, Interior Minister Bruno Retilleau wielded the principle of neutrality of public services. An answer to which Olivier Faure swelled the jurisprudence in the Ukrainian flags. Several cities, such as Nantes, Saint-Oue or Saint-Denis, have already indicated that he wanted to show the Palestinian flag in their pediments.
Survey on the Internet from September 16 to 17 with a sample of 1,002 people representative of the French population in Continental France, 18 years or more. The representativeness of the sample was ensured according to the quota method applied to the following variables: sex, age and profession of the interviewee after stratification by region and category of agglomeration.
