“She will only represent herself”: LR Annie Genevard intends to remain in government despite her party’s position

The current resigned Minister of Agriculture and chair of the LR investiture committee, Annie Genevard, intends to remain in the government, despite the position of the party’s political office.

The division among Republicans continues between those who follow the line of political office, that is, the refusal to enter the government of Sébastien Lecornu, and those who oppose this decision.

Among the latter is the current Minister of Agriculture, resigned, and president of the LR investiture commission, Annie Genevard. Indeed, according to information from Le Figaro, confirmed by BFMTV this Sunday, October 12, he intends to remain in the government.

Why change Sébastien Lecornu’s name as Prime Minister?

“Annie, you can’t do that,” reacted Théo Am’Saadi, president of the Young Republicans in X.

“There is a crazy rumor circulating about the poaching of Annie Genevard by the macro snow. I don’t dare to believe it. Young people get involved in politics to defend an ideal, respect for convictions and loyalty. The decision of the political position must be respected,” he also indicated.

“She will be out of the game”

For Max Brisson, LR senator for the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, “if she enters the government, she will be placed outside the party, she will no longer be able to claim to be president of the National Investiture Commission of LR and she will no longer be able to speak on behalf of LR.”

And he adds: “History teaches us that, in general, individual adventures end up in the dustbin of History. […] If Annie Genevard makes this decision, she will only represent herself.”

At the same time, BFMTV learned that Sébastien Lecornu had warned Bruno Retailleau of his intention to appoint LR ministers in his new government.

High voltages in LR

On Saturday morning, however, the Republican political office had indicated in a press release that “the trust and conditions are not met for Republicans to participate in government” and that there would simply be “text-by-text support.”

A decision that, therefore, does not seem to please everyone. During several meetings between LR on Saturday, there were already strong tensions, and even insults were uttered.

The situation is more tense than ever in the party, while Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu will have to form a government in the coming days.
