Ballots, circulars, election posters… At a printing plant in Sainte-Luce-sur-Loire (Loire-Atlantique), near Nantes, the management is on alert. Potential candidates have already approached her in the event of early legislative elections.
“We are in contact with four or five candidates who ask us to be prepared just in case,” Alexandre Raud, director of the La Contemporaine printing company, explains to BFMTV.
Following the re-election of Sébastien Lecornu in Matignon, the National Rally (RN), France Insoumise (LFI), the Communist Party (PS) and the Ecologists (EELV) announced their intention to vote on a motion of censure in the coming days.
Faced with what could become a dead end, if the socialists join the ranks, many are considering a dissolution of the National Assembly by Emmanuel Macron. In this case, new legislative elections would be held to elect the members of the assembly.
A desire to anticipate
If the dissolution remains hypothetical, some candidates prefer to anticipate it. “For a candidate, this represents about ten hours of production in the company,” explains Alexandre Raud, immersed in printing orders.
To stay prepared, the La Contemporaine printing company secures its stocks of paper and ink, without forgetting the opening of new places.
“We publish calendars just in case and we make sure with our suppliers that we have availability of raw materials. Obviously, as a printer it is also an opportunity to do additional business, but often this is to the detriment of other communications that are a little more global and paused,” comments Alexandre Raud.
“It takes time”
Same anticipation on the municipal side. For the mayor of Attices, Luc Foutry, a dissolution of the National Assembly would come at the worst time. “We are in an end-of-year period that is always very busy, especially with the organization of the Christmas festivities,” worries the elected official at the BFMTV microphone. All the more so since the organization of new legislative elections cannot be improvised.
“Organizing and physically setting up the polling stations takes time and mobilizes administrative services agents. If there were elections, we would know quickly,” considers Luc Foutry.
Ideally, in the event of dissolution, the mayor of Attices hopes that legislative elections will be held in November or early next year. In the event of dissolution, elections must take place at least twenty days and at most forty days after the dissolution.
The elements of an answer should be given this Tuesday afternoon during the Prime Minister’s general policy statement.
