Municipal 2026: In Grenoble, LFI elected official Alan Confesson supports Laurence Ruffin instead of the rebel list

The rebel deputy mayor joins the list of Laurence Ruffin, candidate for the Grenoble municipal elections. Having decided to present an autonomous list, Alan Confesson accuses the movement of following a “purely identity-based and sectarian” logic.

In the municipal elections in the capital of the Alps, the LFI candidate, Allan Brunon, will go alone. But on the ground, not all rebels agree. The current deputy mayor of Grenoble, Alan Confesson, has decided to abandon his movement, our colleagues here report. The elected member thus joins the list of Laurence Ruffin, candidate of the “demonstration of the ecological and citizen left.”

“My loyalty is first and foremost to Grenoble,” he says. Elected since 2014 by a majority of Éric Piolle, current mayor of the capital of the Alps, Alan Confesson insists that for the next elections “nothing seemed more natural to me than to continue this experience that has already contributed so much to transforming the daily lives of the inhabitants of Grenoble.” The experience, in this case, of an ecological, communist and rebellious alliance.

Above all, the LFI candidate “is not from Grenoble”, “does not know the city”, accuses Alan Confesson. “No one can seriously think that he can be mayor and be totally disinterested in local issues,” laments the elected official. And this future rebel list will be “made up of the most sectarian and vindictive elements” of the movement, the elected official considers.

fallacious motives

According to him, the independent list of rebels was formed for “false reasons.” Because “there is no disagreement that justifies not allying with environmentalists, communists and other left-wing forces,” he believes.

In the ranks of the movement created by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, another elected official, this time from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, also expressed his disagreement with the LFI’s approach. “What LFI is doing in Grenoble is crazy,” Emilie Marche criticized the Dauphiné Libéré on October 1. She has since been suspended from the movement.

Alan Confesson should also be sanctioned by national authorities for being a rebel. “It is a decision that was difficult to make, I have been involved in this political force since 2008 and, at the same time, we have reached such a level of violence, it has become so distressing to campaign within this movement that from now on I will not get hot or cold,” he tells ICI.
