This Tuesday, October 21, Nicolas Sarkozy will sleep in prison. The former president of the Republic will discover his cell in the Health prison to begin serving his five-year prison sentence. An arrival at the penitentiary center guarded by the French and for which the former head of state has prepared.
Placement in solitary confinement
Nicolas Sarkozy indicated to Le Figaro and La Tribune Dimanche that he had not requested any accommodation for his stay behind bars. He also refused to write a request for a single cell, although the prison administration decided to put him in solitary confinement to ensure his safety. Therefore, at 9:30 a.m. he will go to La Santé prison and follow the same protocol as the rest of the inmates.
“I am not afraid of prison. I will keep my head held high, even at the doors of Health,” Dimanche insisted to La Tribune.
Upon arrival you will receive the welcome guide to the penitentiary center and the internal regulations of the penitentiary center. Nicolas Sarkozy will then go through the registration service, where his identity will be noted. Then we will remind him why he is imprisoned here for acts of “criminal conspiracy” in the case of suspected Libyan financing of his 2007 presidential campaign.
Your fingerprints will be taken, as well as your photograph. You will be assigned an inmate number, called a “jail number.” This will create your internal prison identity document.
Cloakroom service and a first interview
Once this stage is over, Nicolas Sarkozy will go to the locker room. There you will place your identity documents and prohibited items within the prison facility. You can leave your jewelry and money in a safe. The only exceptions: wedding rings, watches and religious objects.
Following the specific protocol for any detainee, Nicolas Sarkozy will also have to undergo a complete search, in which he will be completely stripped.
Finally, an “arrival kit” will be provided. It contains toiletries, clean underwear, but also sheets, a blanket, plates to eat, as well as paper and pencils to write to your loved ones. The sixth president of the Fifth Republic will then be placed in the “arrivals” section, intended for new detainees.
Nicolas Sarkozy will also have to undergo a brief interview with a manager. It will be able to inform you about possible health problems, injuries or even your diet.
This will be completed with an “arrival” interview with several people within 24 hours of arrival and then an interview with a nursing staff. A medical examination will be carried out within 48 hours of your imprisonment.
Two books with
Nicolas Sarkozy will later discover his cell: 11 m2 with a window, sealed and in solitary confinement. You will have a small television, but no cell phone. To our colleagues at Le Figaro he adds that he will bring two books with him: “The Count of Monte Cristo in two volumes and the biography of Jesus by Jean-Christian Petitfils”.
The former head of state already plans to take advantage of his stay in prison to write a book about his prison life. “I already know the exergue,” he declared in the columns of Le Figaro.
However, his lawyers already plan to submit a request for parole on Tuesday. This request must be examined by the courts within two months.
