PCP leader joins “the fair fight” for wage increases and against impoverishment

This Friday, the PCP’s secretary general joined the CGTP concentration for parliament and “the fair fight” of workers for wage increases and against a state budget he classified as “impoverishment”.

Paulo Raimundo arrived outside the Assembly of the Republic around 11:00 am, where many protesters were already present at the meeting which had been proclaimed “It is urgent to appreciate workers” by the CGTP-IN and asked about his “debut” as secretary- general of the PCP in this kind of initiative.

“It is a debut in excellent form with this great concentration here today that provides the necessary and political response to this state budget that is being approved at this time.Paulo Raimundo said in statements to journalists.

The communist leader regarded the document as “an impoverishment budget”, which the PCP will vote against.

“We are here to demand more dignified conditions, more wages, dignity and respect that workers deserve. We are voting against a budget that does not match the needs of the country and the workers”justified.

Paul Raimundo believed that “the collective strength” of the workers could change the situation and defended that there is room to increase the national minimum wage to 850 euros, as defended by the PCP.

“The wage increase is a national emergency, what is there is a lack of political will to implement it, there is money for it. The budget, the government, has made options that do not match the needs of the workers, sooner or later late they will have to admit from that point of view,” he said.

Raimundo criticized that workers are “pushed into poverty” and “a few line their pockets”.

“We are on the street today, as we will be tomorrow, next week, we will be on the street if necessary”insured.

This Friday, the CGTP-IN will hold a meeting in the Assembly of the Republic against the increase in the cost of living, on the day when the state budget for 2023 as a whole is voted.

In the action under the motto: “More wages! Better pensions! | Against the rise in the cost of living and the attack on rights | Invest in public services”, the trade union center warns of the need to respond to the problems of workers and the country, in the fight to raise wages and pensions to restore and improve purchasing power.

The concentration will take place on the last voting day on the approximately 1,800 amendments tabled, which will culminate in the final global vote on the document.
