The deputies of LR, a member of the government camp, will not “automatically” vote on the state budget, warned the president of their group, Laurent Wauquiez, this Tuesday, October 21, during a press conference at the National Assembly.
“Not censuring the Government does not mean that we will automatically vote (…) on the budget” of the State, “even less a budget that would be under the control of the socialists”, insisted Laurent Wauquiez, stating that his deputies will try to “eliminate all new taxes” and “tax increases”, with “additional savings in public spending”.

In the absence of resorting to 49.3, the government’s commitment to achieve non-censorship of the socialists, the budget “will be what we do with it,” estimated Laurent Wauquiez.
Flanked by several LR parliamentarians, the Upper Vienna deputy set two priorities for his group in the budget discussion: establishing a single social subsidy at 70% of the minimum wage to “revalue work”, and “the full return of the tax exemption for overtime”, established under Nicolas Sarkozy, ensuring that “the Prime Minister (Sébastien Lecornu) is very open about this.”
Jean-Didier Berger (LR), member of the Finance Committee, also welcomed the elimination, on Monday, through an LR amendment, of the tax proposed by the Government on the financial assets of financial holding companies holding at least five million euros in assets, sometimes used to avoid the tax.
“A light Zucman tax,” he joked, praising its replacement in the committee text by a tax on holding companies when their owner dies.
He congratulated his account X for “a common sense measure that will not cost the State a single cent.”
However, all votes must be repeated in the chamber where the deputies will start from the initial copy of the Government.
Other proposals
Other LR deputies also put other proposals on the table during the press conference, on state medical aid, residence permits to receive care or even the number and scope of state agencies, although some measures could be presented outside the budgets.
Laurent Wauquiez also called for a condition of three years of residence to be established for foreigners to access social assistance, a measure introduced since the debates on the latest immigration law.
In the social security budget, the LR group will also propose “limiting the duration of the RSA to two years for people who can work”, according to deputy Josiane Corneloup.
