Imprisoned in La Santé prison since October 21 for criminal conspiracy in the Libyan affair, Nicolas Sarkozy was about to confront two rebel deputies this Monday, October 27.
According to information from the JDD confirmed to BFMTV by a prison source, deputies Danièle Obono and Ugo Bernalicis went to the Parisian establishment in the morning to visit the former president of the Republic.
In fact, the law grants parliamentarians the right to visit penitentiary establishments: they tried to exercise this prerogative. According to this same source, the two deputies from La France Insoumise, accompanied by journalists from Le Monde and Politis, expressly asked to see Nicolas Sarkozy, as well as the two agents of the protection service who protect the former Head of State.
No visit to a particular detainee
This is also the reason why the prison administration turned them away when they arrived at the scene. “The framework of a parliamentary visit is to visit your prison in its entirety, not to visit an inmate,” this same source slips.
The day before Nicolas Sarkozy was admitted to the Health prison, the Minister of Justice, Gérald Darmanin, expressed his desire to visit the former Head of State, of whom he was a collaborator. This announcement provoked angry and disapproving reactions from judges, lawyers and political figures.
