Sandrine Rousseau and Yannick Jadot disowned at the EELV congress

The lists supported by the two former finalists in the green primaries for the 2022 presidential elections were widely surpassed by that of Marine Tondelier, supported by Julien Bayou.

A final score. During the first stage of the EELV congress last Saturday, the approximately 11,000 members voted overwhelmingly for the list of Marine Tondelier (46.97%), candidate for the outgoing leadership, ahead of Sophie Bussière (18.07% ) and Mélissa Camara (13.54%). ), with the support of Yannick Jadot and Sandrine Rousseau respectively.

On Twitter, Marine Tondelier, also a city councilor in Hénin-Beaumont, hailed a “historic score”. “Never has a congress given such a clear orientation to the gap that separates ‘La Suite’ (the motion it represented, editor’s note) from the other lists,” she greeted.

As a direct consequence, the lists supported by Sandrine Rousseau and Yannick Jadot are hit hard. The division between the last two finalists of the environmental primaries had resurfaced during a demonstration in Deux-Sèvres against the mega-basins a few weeks before the Congress.

After being interrupted during the demonstration, Sandrine Rousseau had not defended her. “Yannick Jadot must hear that we need to find a combat ecology,” she scolded on BFMTV the day after this event.

“Media omnipresence is not political weight”

However, “the reality of the party” is not this “post-primary confrontation between Jadot and Rousseau”, argued Marine Tondelier, forceful in her result, in the columns of the World. “Most of the members want to move on.”

From Sandrine Rousseau, Matthieu Croissandeau draws several lessons. In the first place, “media omnipresence is not political weight.” “The permanent rumor strategy”, defended by the deputy for Paris, allows her to “gain notoriety but not necessarily support within her own political family.”

Then, our columnist underlines that “the conflict, the radicalism, the left-wing position of all of Sandrine Rousseau were rejected by the militants,” she underlines. However, the latter were also not convinced by “the so-called more realistic approach advocated during Yannick Jadot’s presidential campaign.”

Finally, Mélissa Camara’s list was the only one that defended a Nupes, considering that it should not be “limited to a parliamentary coalition.” On the contrary, Marine Tondelier underlined the “relative success” of this left-wing alliance.

In an interview in World, judged that “ecology must be the motor of the next elections”. In this sense, the municipal councilor of Hénin-Beaumont and her relatives have shown their reluctance before a common left-wing list in the 2024 European elections, desired by the rebels. Therefore, the congress also made it possible to decide on this question.
