A new chapter in the resignation of Caroline Cayeux who counterattacks. The former Minister of Territorial Communities denounces through the voice of his lawyers “relentlessness”.
“Therefore, we are very surprised by such relentlessness of the HATVP and we wonder about its motivations. The High Authority has no competence in the field of real estate expertise, this is obvious”, can still in a press release from his lawyers . this Wednesday night.
justice seized
The High Authority for the Transparency of Public Life (HATVP) had taken legal action on Tuesday regarding the declaration of assets of the former minister, who suspected a “misleading evaluation” and “tax fraud”.
The former Minister of Territorial Communities, who hastily left the Government this week, is suspected of having underestimated his asset statement.
The HATVP indicates, in a press release published on November 29, that the former minister “had already been alerted in 2021 during the control of her declaration of patrimonial situation instituted as mayor of Beauvais.”
“An assessment in line with what was declared”
Caroline Cayeux’s accommodation in the 16th arrondissement was declared to the transparency police for 2.4 million euros. She should have declared for 4.8 million, judges the HATVP, which also argues that the ex-minister knew the price perfectly, “having sold the property herself to this address.
False, the lawyers of the former mayor of Beauvais respond, attaching to their press release an “assessment on an online estimation site” “showing a valuation in line with the declared one”.
The HATVP still indicates that Caroline Cayeux’s second home, in Ille-et-Vilaine, is undervalued by half by 1.5 million. Therefore, it would be worth around 3 million.
Caroline Cayeux had estimated in a press release shortly after her resignation that the HATVP “continued to question(s) her sincerity”. She claimed to have “taken into account the latest observations” and to have “aligned herself with her assessment” of her. On her part, the HATVP considers that the presentation of corrective statements by Caroline Cayeux “does not eliminate, however, this crime” of false valuation of her assets.
