The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, sworn in the government’s new secretaries of state this Friday at a ceremony also attended by Prime Minister António Costa, after he had no agenda due to health concerns.
The inauguration took place at noon in Palácio de Belém.
Prime Minister António Costa on Tuesday changed two of the three secretaries of state under the economy minister and appointed two new secretaries of state in finance, after choosing António Mendonça Mendes as his deputy foreign minister.
António Mendonça Mendes thus leaves the positions of Secretary of State for Tax Affairs to take up the position of Deputy Secretary of State to the Prime Minister, which had been vacant since the resignation of Miguel Alves, and is replaced by Nuno Félix.
Pedro Cilínio took over as Secretary of State for the Economy, replacing João Neves, and Nuno Fazenda as Secretary of State for Tourism, Commerce and Services, a position previously held by Rita Marques.
João Nuno Mendes takes over as Secretary of State for Finance, having previously held the position of Secretary of State for Finance.
Alexandra Reis in turn replaces João Nuno Mendes as Secretary of State for Finance.
Fernando Medina’s team now includes four Secretaries of State and Sofia Batalha remains Secretary of State for the Budget.
