The national secretary of the PCF, Fabien Roussel, launched this Monday, in Finistère, a national campaign to demand a referendum on the pension reform, he announced in the newspaper Ouest-France.
The campaign, whose motto will be “Good wages, it’s a good retirement”, will be accompanied by an online petition (unebonneretraite.fr), for “all French people to get involved”. “Hundreds of thousands of signatures must convince the government that it cannot make its way by force,” insists the communist official, on a trip to Morlaix.
“It would be good for democracy”
Fabien Roussel also indicates that he wants to present a motion for a referendum on pensions in parallel, to suspend the examination of the bill, with the aim of submitting the text to a referendum.
“A referendum can be triggered directly by the Assembly and the Senate: it is enough for 58 deputies to sign the request. If they are all present in the chamber at the opening of the session, it must be put to a vote, ”he said. Explain.
“Accepting a referendum means six months of public meetings, appearances in the media, a great campaign of confrontation of ideas… It would be good for democracy,” says the communist leader, who believes that “it is better to do so than to block the country , with demonstrations, strikes and company”.
“We will show that it is possible to improve the retirement of the French without increasing the retirement age, we just have to make more people work”, he judges, recalling that today, one senior in two, in the 50-64 age group, is unemployed. If 10% of them get to work, it’s done.”
