The acronym that designates the National Council of Refoundation, wanted and created by Emmanuel Macron, makes direct reference to the National Council of Resistance. And the President of the Republic reminded him this Monday during the trip to Aix-en-Provence where he was traveling to lead a meeting of “his” CNR dedicated to education at a school in the city.
As a prelude to this meeting at the Jas-de-Bouffan school, Emmanuel Macron went at noon to a place with a strong historical resonance: the Camp des Milles. It was about commemorating 10 years since the creation of a memorial in this former tile factory in Aix, converted into an internment and deportation camp during World War II and under the aegis of Vichy.
In particular, he warned: “The collaboration regime continues to recruit worshipers and still has heirs.”
Noting the presence of the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, at his side, set the government’s objective, namely, “to fight over and over again against those who still today transmit racist, anti-Semitic, anti-religious messages.”
“Let’s open our eyes”
Emmanuel Macron declared for the first time: “This past that has happened also makes it possible to write the future. Because it is up to us to resist those who falsify history, who seek to adopt the Republic while betraying their values.”
“Here, in Les Milles, France has been as it should never be again. If we are here 80 years after the deportation of the Jews from Camp des Milles, it is to say that our Nation must be the voice of ‘humanism, the rule of law, the rejection of hate, the collaboration regime continues to recruit worshipers and still has heirs,’ he added.
“Let us know how to open our eyes to the rise of xenophobia and anti-Semitism. Let’s listen to the resurgence of racism, ”she called again.
Macron criticizes Pétain’s “crimes of the French state”
“Let us never be fooled by the new clothes that these same divisive ideologies are adopting to deceive us and we repeat forcefully against the silences, the omissions, the compromises that the victims were the Jews, that their only crime was being Jews, that their murder was not He had another motive than hatred of the Jews,” added Emmanuel Macron.
The latter also underlined by name the responsibility of the French leaders of the time in horror: “The field of Milles, these were the crimes of the French state.” The Head of State still considered that “France in the hands of Pétain and Laval was (there) (was) lost” by “crossing out the principles of 1789”.
A “deliberate slide into crime”
“It was in Les Milles where (the Republic) experienced, as in Vél-d’Hiv, one of its most complete perjury,” the President of the Republic stated in front of this venue, “reminding us that there was on our soil in the camps.” Emmanuel Macron pointed out that Camp des Milles was proof that “the deportation was (also) organized” in the area that “Marshal Pétain’s regime then administered on his behalf.”
“The Camp des Milles was not an accident of history but the result of a deliberate slide into crime,” Emmanuel Macron continued, before noting that “the Jews were the deliberate victims of the French state.”
“Every resignation, every fault, every crime of the French authorities is sedimented here,” he continued.
Saluting the action of the memorial – which he considered “to restore(restore) a political climate”, dismantling “the springs of the genocidal enterprise”, he reestablished the link with our time: “It says why the same causes produce the same effects in others places in other times”. “Anti-Semitism, racism, any form of rejection carries with it the annihilation of all humanity, like the cloud carries within the storm,” he concluded.
