Against the pension reform, Roussel calls for “big rallies” of the left in January

The objective of these meetings would be to meet the French and “tell them the truth” about the pension reform, explains the number one of the PCF.

The national secretary of the PCF, Fabien Roussel, calls this Saturday “big meetings” of the left-wing parties in January “to go to the debate with the French” on the pension reform that Elisabeth Borne must present next week.

“We propose (to) the left-wing parties, unanimously opposed to this reform, that they organize large gatherings starting in January throughout the country,” Fabien Roussel said of France Inter.

It would start with “a great meeting in Paris with all the forces of the left to tell the truth to the French, give the figures and say the proposals that we are putting on the table,” he added, while the executive is in favor of a postponement of retirement age from 62 to 65 years. These meetings would come “in addition to the mobilizations of the unions, which are all united in saying no to this age measure,” he specified.

“Especially not a 49.3”

The general secretaries of the CFDT and the CGT, Laurent Berger and Philippe Martinez, have already promised a “resolute” social mobilization in case of postponement of the retirement age. The PCF has launched an online petition (unebonneretraite.fr) to demand “a great national debate”.

And “especially not 49.3”, added this Saturday the number one of the Communist Party and deputy from the North, while the Prime Minister reserves this cartridge to approve the reform without a vote before the National Assembly.

“If the left governs, we will guarantee that no pension is inferior to the Smic” at the end of a full career, argued Fabien Roussel, while acknowledging “nuances” within the left-wing alliance LFI-PS-EELV-PCF, the retirement to 60 years or taking into account the years of study, for example.

The President of the Government must receive the heads of the parliamentary groups until the middle of next week, before presenting the general lines of the reform project, probably on Thursday, with a view to a review in the Assembly at the beginning of the year.
