“Any division would be very expensive for us”, Retailleau calls for union after his defeat against Ciotti

The Vendée senator wanted to express his gratitude to all members of the Republicans and called to avoid divisions.

Minutes after the announcement of his defeat, Bruno Retailleau spoke. This Sunday, the Vendée senator bowed to Eric Ciotti in the context of the vote that was to determine the new president of the Republicans.

At first, he wanted to thank the activists for his score, he who collected almost 47% of the votes. “I want to say my thanks to those who trusted me, that I was not the favorite. It is unexpected and the score will count,” he said.

Important task for Ciotti

Next, Bruno Retailleau also wanted to congratulate his rival who awaits “a herculean task”.

“We will have to make a break and unite, to show the French that we have learned the lessons of our failures, to renew ideas. Union and unity are a necessity, any division would cost us dearly, Eric is the new president. He is the one who has to work on it ”, he adds.

Eric Ciotti, who had a nine-point lead over his opponent after the first round, thus succeeds Christian Jacob, who resigned in June, after elections that saw the weakening of the right-wing party, which fell to 4.8% in the presidential election.
