The new extraordinary support for the most vulnerable families will be paid from December 23 by bank transfer for all those who have registered the IBAN with the Social Security and by money order for the rest, announced at a press conference, the Minister of Labor, Ana Mendes Godinho. The Council of Ministers also approved the increase in the national minimum wage for 2023, which will rise from 705 to 760 euros.
“The government today approved the increase in the national minimum wage, which will take effect on January 1, 2023, to go from the 705 euros we have today to 760 euros”said Minister Ana Mendes Godinho, pointing out that this value means that the SMN has seen an increase of about 50% since 2015.
The €55 increase, he said, “translates the biggest increase in absolute terms” in the national minimum wage.
In October, as part of the medium-term agreement to improve incomes, the government tabled a proposal to increase the minimum wage from the current €705 to €760 in January 2023.
According to the agreement between the government, UGT and the employers’ federations, the goal is to reach 900 euros by the end of the legislature (2026).
The government proposes to allow the minimum wage to evolve to 760 euros in 2023, to 810 euros in 2024, to 855 euros in 2025 and to 900 euros in 2026.
