Emmanuel Macron announced he would speak early next year about the Universal National Service, during a speech on Monday to troops on the French aircraft carrier Charles-de-Gaulle off Egypt.
“Military experience leads you to develop not only expertise but behavioral qualities, of knowing how to do precious things,” said the President of the Republic in front of the sailors of the aircraft carrier for the traditional Christmas party with the troops.
“This is also why companies are happy to recruit ex-soldiers who leave their uniform,” added the head of state.
At the beginning of November, he had already insisted on the “mobilization” of the nation, which would also include the generalization of the Universal National Service.
“Strengthen the moral forces of the nation”
“That is also why I know that I can count on the military and ex-combatants to face the challenges of strengthening the moral forces of the nation, particularly the youth (…). This moral force is without a doubt the most important of all”, stressed the Head of State.
“In this regard, I will have the opportunity to speak about our great universal national service project early next year,” he said.
In November, during the last national review of the challenges and strategic objectives (RNS) of France from the amphibious helicopter carrier Diksmuide, Emmanuel Macron said that “it is not about militarizing society but about strengthening the spirit of resilience, its moral strength (. .) for the defense of our sovereignty”.
Launched in 2019 on the principle of voluntary service, the universal national service should become widespread and eventually become mandatory.
