André Ventura said that with this initiative of his group “there will likely be a delay in the legislative process and its submission for adoption”and estimated that the diploma will go to the president of the republic “early next year”.
“What is at stake here is a legal question, the final text that in our perspective would be sent to the Presidency of the Republic contains three amendments of great importance, legally heavy”he defended, noting that the “wording does not match what was voted”.
Asked to specify these changes, Chega’s leader stated so “there are problems with deadlines, terms like maximum deadline, being withdrawn”🇧🇷 “medical supervision of some actions performed by non-doctors is another point that has been changed” and “some expressions which are deleted in the middle of the text, but which, when deleted, change the substantial configuration of the text”🇧🇷
On Wednesday, the delegates of the Constitutional Affairs Committee approved the final wording of the text on medically assisted death, without changes. At that meeting, the chairman of the Parliamentary Group of Chega, Pedro Pinto, was present, but did not make an appearance.
The Rules of Procedure of the Assembly of the Republic provide that if there are complaints about inaccuracies, they can be submitted by any deputy “up to the third working day after the date of publication in the agenda of the final text”, which happened on Wednesday .
It is then up to the President of the Assembly of the Republic to decide on the complaints within 24 hours, “with the complaining deputies being able to appeal to the plenary or to the Permanent Commission until the meeting immediately after the announcement of the decision “.
According to Chega’s president, the complaint is “already ready and will be sent to the services today”, so a decision from Augusto Santos Silva is expected on Friday.
André Ventura emphasized that “this is an initiative solely and exclusively of Chega” and that his party is not “trying to slow down the process with delaying means”, but “wants the will defined in parliament to be reflected in law as well “.
“These changes were quickly noticed by deputy Pedro Frazão, who represents us in the health committee, the deputy presented it to me yesterday [quarta-feira] at the end of the day i decided to send these considerations to our legal department for a more in-depth review, to know whether or not we had conditions for this to happen, this morning the legal department understood that there were conditions for a submit a file file a claim under the regulatory conditions and that’s what we’re going to do”he explained.
