“The French are responsible”: Bayrou calls for pedagogy to convince about pensions

The president of the Modem once again pleads on BFMTV for the reform defended by the Executive. “The question is: can we live without the pension reform?” He asks himself.

François Bayrou wants to convince the French about the pension reform. The president of La Módem says he is convinced this Sunday on the set of BFM Politique that it is possible to make the population understand the usefulness of the government’s reform project, while the majority of people are hostile to it.

“(The French) are responsible,” he says on BFMTV.

For this, he calls on the Executive to show pedagogy, assuring that it is not a reform “made for ideological interests.” “I advocate that we have a job of co-responsibility, that each of the citizens have the means to form an opinion (on the reform),” he proclaimed.

Almost one in seven French people (68%) say that they currently oppose the reform that provides for a decrease in the legal retirement age to 64, according to an IFOP survey for the JDD published this Sunday.

“Can we continue with the current imbalance?”

The old Guardian of the Seals returns to advocate for this reform that he considers essential.

“The question is: ‘Can we live without pension reform?’ (…) Can we continue with the current imbalance, (…) is it sustainable?

“The pension reform is made to save the system,” he says again.

A “review clause” for 4 years from now?

François Bayrou pleads for a political agreement on “a review clause” to see where “the financing will be in 4 years”.

The High Commissioner for Planning also declares himself in favor of “a new governance of our pension system”, citing the example of private pensions: “Agirc Arrco unions have taken the necessary decisions to balance their system”, he points out.

A great day of mobilization against the pension reform is scheduled for Thursday, January 19 at the request of the unions.
