Pensions: the Government still cannot count on the support of all LR deputies

A dozen elected Republicans do not want to vote for pension reform as it stands, pointing in particular to the issue of long careers. However, the majority expects LR to vote on their text.

Will the presidential majority have enough deputies to carry out its pension reform project? Nothing less true, while 13 LR deputies claim to currently oppose the project, according to a deputy-by-deputy count published this Sunday by the JDD.

On Wednesday, the president of the LR group, Bruno Retailleau, explained that “a dozen or fifteen deputies” from the opposition party “could not vote for him.” However, the support of the Republicans is crucial for the reform to be adopted.

Avoid a new 49.3

A possible loss of valuable votes for the presidential majority that has set itself the goal of approving the reform without resorting to 49.3, already used ten times to approve budget texts.

Especially since the government must also guarantee the full support of the various components of its presidential majority (Renaissance, MoDem, Horizon). The hypothesis of slingers within these groups was ruled out this Wednesday by the president of the Renaissance group Aurore Bergé, who assured that the elected representatives of the presidential majority are “mobilized and united.”

Retirement at 1200 euros and long careers in the viewfinder

If the name of all the elected LRs who oppose the reform is not revealed by the JDDthe ex-candidate for the presidency of the party Aurélien Pradié is one of them.

“In the current state of the proposals, I do not vote for the reform,” says the deputy from Lot.

For the elected official, two aspects of the current project pose a problem: the minimum amount of the pension set at 1,200 euros at full rate for all retirees, including current retirees, and the impossibility of leaving workers who began their careers anticipated way. before the age of 64, even if they have accumulated the necessary quarters.

This last point poses a problem in LR and could even “transfer around thirty deputies” to the camp of opponents of the reform project, says the elected official.

An “expensive” reform for LR?

Some elected officials are also concerned about the political consequences for their camp of the LR’s alliance with the presidential majority in favor of this unpopular reform.

“Politically we won’t get anything,” says one, when another elected official fears a “potentially costly” reform for LR.

The executive had agreed to make various concessions on the reform bill to satisfy the elected LR and secure their support. An outstretched hand greeted by the LR chief deputy. “We take note that the Prime Minister has listened to several of our requests,” Olivier Marleix greeted this week.

Seven out of 10 Frenchmen are opposed as it is, according to a poll by the JDD released this Sunday. The unions call for a great day of mobilization next Thursday against the reform project.
