“I wanted to send a political message”: an activist recounts his exclusion from a speech by Emmanuel Macron

Youssef Hanayen, an activist from La France insoumise, brought a white T-shirt on which he had written “No to your pension reform” during an act in Barcelona as a gift from the President of the Republic.

On the day of the mobilization against the pension reform, Emmanuel Macron was in Spain for a diplomatic summit. On this occasion, he participated in a meeting with French residents in Barcelona, at the French high school in the Catalan city.

Youssef Hanayen, an insubordinate activist from France, attended this event. “When Emmanuel Macron came in, I showed my shirt,” he told BFMTV. About the latter, he had written: “No to his pension reform.”

“A political message”

“The purpose of this political action was just to convey a political message,” explains the activist.

I wouldn’t have had the chance. Within seconds, the security services quietly escorted Youssef Hanayen out of the room. “They still asked me to unlock the phone, check the photos and videos and delete everything that was linked to this political message,” he denounces on our antenna.

He says that he regrets not having been able to “pass a political opinion” to the Head of State on this day of inter-union mobilization.
