PS Congress: Faure advances an “indisputable result”, despite the challenges of his opponent

If Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol judges that he is the winner of this election and denounces electoral fraud, the current first secretary refutes “these accusations that are”, according to him, “the installation of a parallel truth”.

An internal ballot that becomes a cacophony. Since Thursday evening, the day of the results of the second round of the 80th congress of the socialist party, the two candidates in the running – Olivier Faure, current first secretary and mayor of Rouen Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol – consider, one and the other, who won the vote.

Guest of France Info this Monday, Olivier Faure is firm. He judges that “all this is bad controversy” and insists on “a result that is indisputable.”

“That does not mean that everything is fine and that we should not now try to move forward and unite the Socialists, but there is an electoral reality,” he said.

On the night from Thursday to Friday, the mayor of Rouen and the deputy of Seine-et-Marne had declared themselves winners. Each field accused each other of irregularities in the votes and had announced appeals and requests for the annulment of votes by sections.

Verification of results at the center of debates

Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol called in particular for the seizure of the verification commission “to validate this ballot”. Met this weekend. On Sunday, after a new recount, the PS leadership confirmed the victory of Olivier Faure with 51.09% of the vote.

Then, his opponent, once again… challenged this result. He asks to resume the work of the commission, which “was interrupted” and could not be completed, and accuses his rival of “forced passage.”

According to the PS press release this Sunday, the vote control commission, made up of representatives of the different guidance texts, and meeting at the party headquarters since Friday “closes its work at 3:45 p.m., after the refusal to go to the vote of the representatives of Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol”.

In another press release, those close to Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol affirm that “the outgoing leadership of our party supported by the representatives of Olivier Faure” proposed, after 15 hours of meeting, “to stop this systematic study and until ‘at the end of the results gathered by the federations and disputes, in exchange for a global haggling for a result arbitrarily giving the majority to Olivier Faure’.

“Parallel Truth”

As expected, the director in question has another version. “All the minutes are available to the press. You can see and verify how we proceeded. There is a result that is indisputable,” he told France Info on Monday. And to affirm: “All the federations that have a dispute have been reviewed.”

At the same time, Olivier Faure addresses an entry to Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol and his followers, stating:

“I am surprised by these accusations that they are the installation of a parallel truth and the desire to discredit a vote that was carried out in good conditions.”

What was at stake in this internal election referred mainly to the New Ecological and Social Popular Union (Nupes). Olivier Faure defends his strategy of an “exclusive” left alliance, the only way according to him to block the right and the extreme right in 2027. Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol, more reserved about this agreement, does not hide his reluctance before the party by Jean-Luc Melenchon.

In France Info, Olivier Faure said he was “neither blind nor deaf” regarding Nupes. “I know that it is suffering for many of us,” he said, referring to “those of us who have experienced the fact of not being a candidate in the legislative elections as a form of injustice.”
