Climate: Elisabeth Borne willing to “associate” young people with public policies

The Prime Minister spoke at the end of a National Refoundation Council (CNR) in Matignon dedicated to youth and ecology.

Elisabeth Borne said that she was ready on Monday, during a meeting in Matignon, to “associate” young people with the elaboration of public policies related to the ecological transition.

“I listen (…) to your request to be associated, not only punctually but continuously, with the elaboration of policies on all these issues”, said the Prime Minister at the end of a National Council for the refoundation (CNR) in Matignon. dedicated to youth and ecology. “You can count on me and my government to go in that direction.”

The track of an environmental assessment test

Following the launch of the youth NCR in December, the head of government will lead a total of five thematic NCRs such as ecology, during which some thirty young people exchanged with five ministers: Pap Ndiaye (Education), Christophe Béchu (Ecology transition ), Sylvie Retailleau (Higher Education), Agnès Pannier-Runacher (Energy Transition), Sarah El Hairy (Youth).

The next ones will focus on everyday life in February, the professional future and equal opportunities in March and finally commitment and citizenship in April, before the presentation of a “road map”. The President of the Government also supported the idea of ​​an evaluation on the environment, on the Toefl model for English or the Pix on digital skills, to “measure where we are, each one in their conscience, in their knowledge of these issues”. .

He also vowed to “see how we can move forward” on the issue of free transport for young people, following the announcement on Sunday of 60,000 free train tickets between France and Germany.

Punishes the “very violent actions” of certain people

Questioned by a young woman who considered it “contradictory to seek to promote youth engagement on climate issues while criminalizing some of the people who get involved” and who denounced the term “eco-terrorist” used by Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, Élisabeth Borne assured that “it is not at all about pointing out the behavior of young people who demonstrate peacefully”.

“What it was about, without a doubt, is people who, apart from these demonstrations, arrive without being militant at all (…) and who have a very violent action,” replied the government leader.

While participants suggested green app development, he praised Ecowatt for its contribution to a 10% reduction in energy consumption and “small choices, small gestures” that can “enable us to make big leaps.”
