Two weeks after his return to the National Assembly, Adrien Quatennens expelled from the Left Party

The deputy convicted of domestic violence is no longer a member of the Left Party, a satellite of La France insoumise. The movement points to “the communication” of the chosen ones “that reverses the accusation of violence.”

A piece of news that risks giving the members of La France insoumise food for thought who want to reconsider their sanction against him. Adrien Quatennens was expelled this Tuesday night from the Left Party.

“He cannot be reinstated into our organization, after the court ruling of December 13, 2022,” can be read in a press release published by this movement.

Born in 2009 after the departure of Jean-Luc Mélenchon from the Socialists, the Left Party has been relatively low-key since 2016 and the launch of La France insoumise.

“Communiqué reversing the accusation of violence”

Sentenced to 4 months in prison conditional due to domestic violence, later excluded from his parliamentary group until April 13, the deputy from the North returned to the National Assembly as an unregistered deputy on January 11.

The decision taken by the Left Party is explained “by virtue of (its) principles and (its) program to combat violence against women, and in light of the communication revoking the accusation of violence.”

The speeches of this close friend of Jean-Luc Mélenchon, after his sentence, threw problems in the field. On BFMTV, Adrien Quatennens had thus evoked a romantic relationship that was not “non-violent” but “difficult for about two years”. The deputy also retraced the day he slapped his wife, speaking of “a serious dispute with reciprocal threats”.

A text from activists asking for their exclusion from LFI

Several figureheads of the movement had then distanced themselves from his comments of manon aubry to Clémentine Autain through Sarah Legrain, who heads the movement’s unit to combat sexual and gender-based violence.

Several are now talking internally about the need to “rethink” the decision made before the interviews with Adrien Quatennens, a hypothesis that seems unlikely.

The text signed by more than 1,000 LFI or Nupes activists calling for “the exclusion of Adrien Quatennens”Boxing Day, however, chilled even those who still supported him internally.

A book in the pipes

To try to turn the page, Adrien Quatennens should dedicate himself in the coming weeks to the bottom of the files.

“His goal now to turn the page is to be discreet while continuing to be a worker, perhaps write a book to tell what he has experienced,” a parliamentary collaborator deciphered with BFMTV.com in early January.

On the benches of the presidential majority, which did not escape the embarrassment of the rebels, a bill to disqualify deputies in the case of certain violence it will be examined in the Assembly probably in March.
