Costa denies making any effort in favor of Isabel dos Santos’ fitness

The Prime Minister claims he never took any steps with Banco de Portugal “or anyone else” in favor of Isabel dos Santos’ eligibility and acted alone to resolve the shareholder blockade in BPI.

This position was put forward by António Costa in response to questions put to him by the PSD on November 23, after former Banco de Portugal governor Carlos Costa accused him of pressure and “political interference” in the removal process. BIC.

Following these statements, which he classified as “false and abusive”, the prime minister announced in November that he would charge the former governor.

In the letter now sent to parliament, the executive leader assures that he has “never taken any steps with the governor of Banco de Portugal or anyone else in favor of” the daughter of the former president of Angola, “nor specifically about whether or not he should be considered suitable to be a EuroBic administrator, let alone because she is the daughter of a president of a friendly country,” the prime minister replies, contradicting Carlos’ version Costa.

António Costa later mentions that EuroBic was “not subject to any kind of action” on the part of his government and that “only Banco de Portugal could assess the reasons for its intervention in the definition of the board of directors” of that bank, “which has never been publicly communicated nor disclosed” to the executive.

“At that time, there was another process involving the engineer Isabel dos Santos, this process relevant to the stability of the financial system and the national economy, which required the greatest attention from the government: the situation of shareholder blockade verified at BPI bank”, points out the leader of the executive branch.
