Ventura says Chega is the “only cure” for the “deadly virus” of socialism

Chega’s president this Saturday justified his re-candidacy for the position with the conditions he believes to improve the party’s election results, which is “the only cure” against the “deadly virus” of socialism. “It only makes sense to run again today with the aim of significantly improving what we have achieved,” he said.

André Ventura presented the motion to run for leadership in what was his second speech to Chega’s V National Convention, which began Friday night in Santarém and ends Sunday.

“I have made the decision to rejoin, as I understand that I have conditions for the next four years to lead this party to what it deserves, to lead a government of Portugal,” he stressed, addressing the presented three “main objectives” he has for the future: “To win every election, to show that we are the main Portuguese party and that the ceiling falls on my head if we do not become leaders of the government of Portugal one day”.

Despite acknowledging that he cannot promise to “win the election” or “get a result higher than what the PSD will have”, the Chega leader guaranteed that he will “fight for it”.

Ventura said he wanted to win votes among abstainers and presented Chega as the “only cure” for the “deadly virus that is socialism”. “This remedy must be firm enough, strong enough and without fear of words,” he stressed.

André Ventura pointed out that the PS had “expanded a huge octopus in Portugal”, stating that “the PS is like a virus passing through the national body”, which “infected even those who should fight it”.

Shooting at the PSD, Chega’s leader also claimed “that the opposition has not done the opposition, has not done the job it was told to do” and is “afraid that now it is not even closer to the PS because there is a party that Enough hot and they’ve gotten a little embarrassed by being so close to the PS”.

“We were born with a government project, with an alternative power project,” he defended, considering that “there is a single party that leads the opposition, that brings out the ‘sound bites’” in parliament, “that gets agitated and nervous, like all people, because he suffers from “the “pains that the Portuguese suffer at home”.

The party chairman, and only candidate, said that currently “millions of Portuguese are struggling to pay basic bills at home, fill up their cars, know whether their son or daughter will have a job when they leave university, whether their grandparents will have money to pay for the house”.

“There’s no point in entertaining ourselves with internal wars if we don’t have the message the Portuguese want,” he insisted, defending that the party’s deputies and leaders should be “the spokesmen of hope.”

At the start of his speech, Ventura pointed out that since last year’s parliamentary elections “all the leaders of the parliamentary right have changed”, referring to the changes in the PSD, IL and CDS-PP leaders and reiterated one of the ideas of his first speech, that not re-election “would be an enormous political cowardice”.

Presenting the motion by which he is running for leadership, André Ventura also guaranteed that when he understands that he no longer has “personal, political or other” conditions to take the party “forward”, no one will “press” . him or show him the door”. “Like all democracies and all democratic parties, I will stand on my own two feet and sit with you in the next rejuvenation of this party,” he said.
